The thing that is so frustrating
is that when a women gets BASKERVILLE'S LOOTED
some publicity as a director, it is
precisely for that reason because she's a woman.... Instead of simply having the critic write: O'NEIL AT PLAY HOUSE the headliner is WOMAN DIRECTS O'NEILL
HG: It sounds like you're experiencing the growing pains of any repressed minority who have to prove themselves in an expected niche, before they'll be allowed to break out and acknowledge other talents besides your ability to cross stage right and be reviewed for more than "moving well". Blame the critic for losing site of what was to be reviewed instead of the directors genetic persuasion ... Blame the playwright for not creating more meaty, more contemporary parts for women.
HG: Hold on. Plays are rejected everyday because they have explored women and not exploited them.
KL: But that's the point; If it's new, it could very well bomb When a board of directors sits down to approve the budget, they are in essence reviewing the season's offerings. They're human and they've been conditioned to backing plays that will positively reinforce them by financially reimbursing them.
HG: Sounds like the public is the guilty party.

A few days later, the club's
that's not reason enough.
HG: How can we make the public aware that they have a creative right... that you don't I have to be syndicated to be a critic.
KL: We have to mold them. We can't automatically stop presenting them with their steady diet of light comedy... we have to intersperse the new plays that present new roles of

outside gas meter was stolen and there was no heat for a time. Then in mid-November, accoriding to the owner, Baskerville's. was broken into and the sound system, pinball machines, liquor and even chairs and tables were taken.
John, the owner who is straight, has indicated there was some hostility among some individuals in the Flats who never 'warmed to the idea of a gay bar there. There are, however, no leads on who the burglars were.

HG: It sounds like a Catch 22, ... because if you don't prostitute your beliefs you just may prostitute yourself. It all sounds pretty hopeless.
KL: Yea but... you forget...! the theatre is the place where anything goes on stage. Now, all we have to start is start walking BACKWARDS.
